Delaware Organic Food and Farming Association Annual Educational Meeting

Saturday, January 12, 2008     9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.     Paradee Center, Dover, DE

 

Moderators:        Gordon Johnson, University of Delaware

                                Maggie Moor-Orth, Delaware State University

 

9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

Presentations by invited organic producers and organic researchers.  Topics will include organic production basics, organic vegetable and fruit production, organic field crop production, organic livestock and poultry production, organic greenhouse production, cover crops, soil health, pest management, and organic marketing.

10:45 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Breakout Sessions

 

Session 1:  Pest management in organic crop systems.  Researchers and growers will share their experiences managing weeds, insects, and diseases in organic crops (vegetables, fruits, field crops).  The focus will be on integrated systems and specific strategies for common pests.  Research on organic pest controls will be presented.

 

Session 2:  Publicity, promotion, advertising, and connecting to customers.  DOFFA’s Carolyn Berl-Donald will lead this session on how to publicize and promote your farm, cost effective ways to advertise, and ways to connect to your customers.

Organic growers, researchers, and University specialists will be on-hand to answer questions from those interested in organic production in an informal setting.
