4-H Textile and Clothing: Resources and Contest Information

TC

4-H'ers taking the Textiles and Clothing projects have a multitude of ways in which they can express their enthusiasm and knowledge of textiles, fabrics, fashion, and assembling skills. Whether you are a novice, beginer or an expert garment constructionist, there is something in our program for you. Dedicated leaders present sewing workshops throughout the year to help
4-H'ers hone their skills! Can't sew at all? We would love to introduce you to our No-Sew projects and workshops designed to introduce a 4-H'er of any age to the experience of working with textiles with their hands. Our No-Sew Fleece workshops have been very popular and over the years, 4-H members have constructed blankets, pillows, hats and scarves for their own use, as gifts, as state fair exhibits and as donations to groups who appreciate such handiwork.

Textiles and Clothing means fashion also!! 4-H members may choose to participate in Fashion Planning - part consumer education, part creativity and planning, Fashion Planning 4-H'ers research accessories, wardrobe costs and budgets. They document their reasoning in a presentation notebook. They model how they put together a particular outfit or accessory.

Young men and ladies in all age groups, and from all experience levels, enter the Sussex County 4-H Textile and Clothing Showcase (aka Fashion Revue).. They are judged in construction, presentation and other factors. Many county winners qualify to be part of the Fashion Court, at the Delaware State Fair. Many 4-H'ers participate in Judging Contests concerning Textiles and Clothing. We hope you will also consider this fun, practical and valuable project too!
